Just the two of us… maybe more, I dunno. Maybe this shore leave will be normal…but then again, probably not. A nap, sure. Just some fucking shut-eye! I know Anderson practically ordered it, and he was nice enough to give me his apartment for the time being. And this place is Heh, maybe I won't retire if this is what Admiral pay can get me. Whether he orders it or not. But I better go, I can mope around later. And sushi and sake don't sound too bad right about now, especially if the Alliance is paying.
Son of a bitch! Can I not go one goddamn day without someone trying to kill me?! And God, why the fuck did I wear heels?! Even if Brooks does seem a little green behind the ears…. And Garrus…well, he really cleans up nice. Black looks good on him. Oh well. I have a clone. A fucking clone. And Brooks, that bitch. I should go. Glyph, can you get us out of here? Babe, could you grab me some Tylenol from the medicine cabinet, please? Last night was - oh, thanks babe - kinda wild.
I mean, who else can say they killed their clone then threw the craziest house party ever? I…try not to think about it too much. Hero of the Citadel, vanquisher of The Collectors, and - Ow, hey! Ah ha, ah ha - shut it, Archangel. Oh, hey - before we go, do you want to hit up that casino again? We can talk about it after breakfast.
Now go wake James up. You too, now go. I want her opinion on…something. I need to fucking blow off some steam before I put my fist through the hull. Garrus, can you come up to my cabin, please? Oh, and…bring the chafing cream? Thanks, babe. The only thing is they got enough people to come willingly that this shit went on for far longer than it should have with no one questioning just what the hell was going on here.
Between the fucked up shit they were pulling here and on Omega with those Adjutant nightmares…. I am going to rip that base apart, and then I am putting a bullet between the Illusive Man eyes once and for all. For Miranda. For everyone we lost on the Citadel. For Thane. I wanted him to suffer like I suffered. Like Miranda suffered. Like Thane suffered. Jesus, it reeks in here. That beam fucked me up good. T-t-ore right through my p-p-plating.
Possible gunfire. This log has been edited for clarity. We got the arms open, and I can hear Hackett in my comms saying the Crucible is docking. I only hope it does its job…whatever the hell that is. Even to the end, he had to play hero. God d-da-[unintelligible] it, Anderson. Y-you promised. Hackett owes me…owes me that much. And you know the crew will be right by your side.
I - Oh, shit that hu-hurts! Is this what they mean when they talk about the white light at the end? Or am I just hallucinating from the pain? I have been in contact with Admiral Hackett. The Alliance is still recovering Earth and there is a lot of rubble to pick through. I, myself, hold out hope that we may yet see her again. She has cheated death once before, and Shepard has never been one to disappoint. In any case, once Earth is habitable again, he would like us and Tali to attend a formal ceremony to accept our Stars of Terra…and one for Shepard, as well.
My sources also tell me that your name has been put forth for Spectre candidacy again, but we can discuss that at length later. I did what I could, but The Alliance is keeping any information pertaining to Shepard locked tight - even for me. Well, we met for drinks, actually. It took him a second, which was precious as hell, but he finally got the hang of it. He came home with me, not her. And I mean, I was expecting it to be kinda fun, but…damn.
He got me dancing! I mean my god, the things that Turian can do, I-ahem. Garrus, you mean everything to me. I would never have been able to make it this far without you. When things seemed impossible, you were right there to pull me out of my own funk, and you let me in after you had been given every reason not to trust me again.
I love you, Garrus Vakarian, my big, dumb Turian. With all my heart. Would it kill you not to be fatalistic for two seconds? Now, would you care to join your brooding stranger with the killer voice in bed once more? Hmmm, well when you put it like that, how can I refuse? A LOT of work went into it, and a lot of borderline obsessive0 attention to detail went into it.
It's very dear to me and it took me a while to get it to where I felt it was right to post. And to the newbies that found their way to the fandom with the re-release: welcome! Mary looked up from the safety of the relatively stationary floor of the shuttle. This wasn't a day where the nausea meds worked to full effect, but she could suffer through a grin, "Illusive Man didn't appreciate Leng's interference with our mission. Give me a reason to smear him against the cargo bay walls," Jack retorted with a smug grin.
Mary rubbed at her temples, focusing again on the grooves in the flooring, "we might be pushing it already. Since when did you give a fuck about what Cerberus thinks? Did you drink Cheerleader's kool-aid? Unfortunately, it tastes like watered down orange. Mary puffed out her cheeks, "he was elusive about it. Leng mentioned something about a confidentiality breach. Tali, did you try and hack their systems? I wouldn't do something like that without you knowing about it.
Mary nodded, "I thought so. If I wanted to get rid of those bugs, what would I need to do? Jack leaned back in her seat with a growing scowl, "him and some Cerberus bitch tried to capture me. It didn't happen, but some mercs got me instead. The blond flinched, "I'll have you know I ignored an urgent message from the Illusive Man to bring you here.
Worse was the presence of nearly every friend she had left in the galaxy. Most brought in by her. She had no doubts that the Collecter threat was overly sensationalized, but for the time being, it what her only option in stopping the threat.
Anderson had seen the threat for himself, but whether or not he could help remained unknown partially because she was afraid of a formal admonishing. Predictably, the break was a trap. Mary wasn't liking the new habit of trampling through her ship in armour fresh from a fight. Or how annoyingly composed the Illusive Man always was, even in her impromptu meeting, he was waiting with a cigarette and drink in hand.
The bastard knew what he had done. Worse, he was ready for her to explode. I suggest you tell your crew I didn't risk their lives unnecessarily," whether or not the microscopic curl of his lip was imagined in the end, "it would make things easier going forward. His pupils narrowed as he stared at her, mouth kept in a thin line.
Boldened by this slip, Mary pushed it, "you'll be lucky to have my crew after this. The council already dismissed you once. The Alliance doesn't care about the humans in the Terminus Systems," his posture and blank expression returned, "unless you don't care about the abducted colonies and the Reaper threat anymore.
He issued a long and drawn-out chuckle, "I expected better behavior from you, Shepard. Be an adult, and put aside your petty grievances. You need me to stop this threat. The coldness pierced her heart first, spreading through her veins with incredible speed until it froze the tip of her fingers.
The frigidity of her body forcing her face in a neutral expression, "Akuze was no petty grievance, you conniving prick. She couldn't lose much more face, so stomping off without a pause was well within her wheelhouse. Kaidan knew that look, not that he had to be blocking her way to read it.
The emotionless mask was there for only a select few emotions, and all urged him to reach out. Whatever it was, at least meant he wouldn't have to explain why he hovered around the briefing room. He stood his ground, allowing her the time to breathe before he attempted to pry it out of her. Eventually, her shoulders dropped for the briefest moment before squaring back up. Shepard's posture had corrected, but the mask had yet to fall. Moving him into unfamiliar territory, so he waited for her to speak.
Timidly, slowly, placing his hand on her pauldron once the time elapsed into the space of no response. First, her body lurched forward, he instinctively moved to pull her in, but the arm that reached around him corrected course and shoved him aside.
Perhaps a little harshly, as his back met the metal wall of the hallway. Finally, the mask slipped, catching the moment her eyes filled with regret that morphed with the half-assed raising of her arms, "it was a trap. Mary spun away to the right, sputtering another few choice words as Mordin collided with her across the opening doorway. His gaze lingered longer on the human. The other two were obviously connected to Shepard.
His short time aboard the Normandy, he hardly saw the Commander and this man in the same room. The human's next smile a little less forced, "yeah. With Joker at the helm. Those were crazy days. Thane stood from his seat, this talk of the past making him feel further like a stranger in this group. Why Officer Alenko had invited him in the first place was a mystery, he hadn't attempted to speak with anyone. Not out of malice but out of desire. Shepard's words about him socializing with the crew to find meaning the sole reason he attempted this game.
Thane glanced between the group; they were a good sort. He shrugged in an effort not to disappoint them, returning to his seat; he had little else of import to do. Doesn't that distort your vision? Grunt barrelled by the table, taking the L2's attention with him.
Adding biotics to the already large Krogan only increased his appetite, especially after a fight. The youngster looked pleased, settling down at the table with whatever was easiest to sweep into his arms—tearing into the still bagged loaf of bread sideways, the group watching with mixed reactions. The krogan looked up and around the table with a sheepish grin, "I am a boy no longer. I have passed the rite, and with my battle master, have defeated a thresher maw! You should be in awe!
A worthy opponent. So big and in your face," Grunt continued to gloat through mouthfuls of bread and plastic. The krogan groaned, "she fought well. So well, she was too tired to speak. Kaidan shuffled from his chair, hesitating as the turian and quarian took turns locking eyes with him, "am I supposed to sit here and do nothing?
Grunt looked around the table, cocking his head to the side. Thane went still, achieving a far better understanding of the situation than the confused krogan. Until Miranda, followed by Kai Leng burst from the second officer's office, both beelined for the elevator. Garrus, Tali, and Kaidan moved to intercept the pair.
It did not work; the man's eyes only narrowed the anger held in his posture, doubling. Leng rolled his eyes, "and neither is whatever fit Shepard is having in the elevator. I don't think she will, anyway. It's her way of coping. Miranda placed her hands on her hips, "well, this is why we hired you, Alenko.
Make her stop, or we'll be forced to act. Riding through the elevator of the Normandy was an old pastime. Something about being crammed into a small space with blank walls let her think. About the good, about the bad, about anything that needed her consideration, really.
She had spent hours in the old elevator; they moved much too quickly in the new ship. With more floors and staff came more distractions. Usually, it involved much less biotic discharge, but this time that display kept the peace. The strain to keep it contained and from flaring too brightly occupied her mind pushed out the thing Pulling it all back in, only characterized by a faint aura around her form, was another challenge.
She kept her back to the person. The opened bag revealing the light reddish-brown contents within, "I thought you might be hungry. She looked Kaidan up and down, resting on his gentle gaze. Why was she so stubborn? Was he really so different? Did who he worked for matter? She couldn't pretend that all she saw of Cerberus was bad.
She trusted Jacob- he had many of the same qualms she did about the organization but continued under their banner without compromising his morals. Her work was good fighting to protect the galaxy from the Reaper threat. Sure at the moment, it felt solely based on saving humans from the Collector threat, but they were only a tiny piece of the problem. She saw no shift in Kaidan, despite the things he had done after she passed.
The same integrity, the same aggravating calm, the same compassion. Pushing the chips aside, she wriggled her way into his arms. A hand threaded through her still damp hair, his nose pressing into the top of her skull. The other arm supported the small of her back, cradling her in gently.
Mary breathed in his familiar scent, no different than the man she knew two years ago. It was this easy. Some, but not all, of her worries faded into the background. She had missed physical comfort. Kaidan's chest rumbled, the patch pressed against her forehead an unwelcomed annoyance. A reminder. Hot and blinding, the logo was all she could focus on as it rubbed against her. Shepard: "you make me feel like I can take on the universe. And right now, I kind of have to". Remembering when I pissed two older Mass Effect fans off because I put Kaidan on a pedestal even though I was making a joke and observation about Garrus and Liara and tbh, it just made me appreciate Kaidan more and put him on a higher pedestal.
He's such a good man and is the only character who hasn't pissed me off at least once. The most I've ever gotten with him was fustrated, but that's not even his fault, it was Bioware's because I wanted to see him more but Bioware didn't let him rejoin the Normandy until waaay into game 3. The Horizon moment doesn't make me mad, at the most, it just made me feel sad and work harder to get him back by putting a chastity belt on Shepard and rushing through game 2 so I could see him again.
I don't see what's not to like about him. There's only complaints that he's "boring" but he's not boring. He's human. He wears his heart on his sleeve, let's you know exactly what's up when he's thinking about something, his emotional reactions when he sees blatant wrongdoing, how he felt as though he couldn't trust the woman he loved because she did something that went against his strong morals and values and couldn't just blindly follow her, but still couldn't stop himself from loving her.
He then learned to trust her again and waited for her, asking her if she'd still have him again, as a crew member and a lover, despite what happened, and told her he'd never doubt her again, seeing her in action again and seeing for himself that she never lost herself. Shepard: Oh right, Liara sure.. I totally don't have a crush on Garrus or anything.. Kadian: Enough! I know about the both of you and that you are Ok, so it took a while to write this, but I think it came out so beautifully.
Enjoy some Shoker fluff! Here is the link to the AO3. The coffee had gone cold long ago. Not that it mattered. For a brief moment, he considered that maybe the Thorian had survived and he was under its influence somehow. Could the alien lifeform reach him across the galaxy like that? In the end, Kaidan was the one who named the feeling of unease he felt the moment they landed on a new planet. Since Eden Prime, whenever the ground team left to complete their mission, there were moments when Joker sat at the helm and wondered if it would be the last time he saw any of them again.
Worst case scenarios played in his head while he waited, impatiently, for any sign of life. So many times had Shepard and her team left his ship, only to return back bloodied and bruised, but alive. Hell, he even remembered that awful time on Akuze when everyone but Shepard died. She still suffered panic attacks years later. But now…. He had tried to clamor out of his seat the moment she was back aboard, sweaty and stinking but no worse for wear.
She had to settle him back down into the chair before he hurt himself, reassuring him that she was unharmed. With a sigh, Joker put his head on the table, ignoring the crew that left from eating their evening meal to return to their workstations.
Alenko slid onto the chair across from him, the mess silent as the last of the marines filed out. He had a look of contemplation on his face and it made Joker uneasy. It usually ended in a conversation where he revealed something personal and from his experience, being personal ended badly for him. It was intense down there. Joker picked his head up, glancing around the room to make sure they were still alone.
And if someone sees me knocking on her door? Did you want something to happen? He huffed, ignoring the flare of color that was burning under his collar. But his eyebrow was still raised curiously in his direction and this time it was accompanied by a grin. An uncomfortable silence fell between them, both thinking about his words. He hated to admit it, but Joker wished that he had never befriended Shepard all of those years ago on Arcturus.
The smile had disappeared, only to be replaced by concern. Just wanted to check in and see if the zombies got a bite. The pilot stiffened, realizing how fucked he was before he even looked. When he got the nerve to glance over his shoulder, the sight of Aurora Shepard standing there, blue eyes wide in shock, was almost too much to handle.
He could hear Alenko make his escape from the mess, his boots scraping against the floor as he ran like the coward he was. Rubbing the back of his neck, Joker let out a nervous laugh, trying to hide how mortified he was in that very moment.
The shock smoothly disappeared from her face at the sound of his voice. Aurora nodded her head back towards her cabin, an expectant look on her face. Joker sighed as she returned to her room and he did the only thing he could when Shepard hailed him: follow. He limped into her cabin, the cane in his hand the only thing keeping him steady as he waited for the dressing down he was no doubt going to get. The door slid closed with a hiss behind him, cutting them off from the rest of the ship and crew.
He loved the Normandy and he was meant to fly her, but his friendship with Aurora Shepard extended well beyond the ship. He shut his mouth before he got himself into even more trouble. She turned, eyes downcast as if she was afraid to meet his gaze. Shepard walked to the small desk in the corner of her cabin, leaning her back against it. After a painfully long minute, she sighed, finally glancing up. The things that were done to the colonists there.
She was silent for some time before speaking again. Probably kinder. She probably had piles of reports to finish before they returned to the Citadel and he was only adding to her stress. Clinging onto that like a lifeline, Joker shifted between his feet nervously. Joker took a small step back, leaning heavily on his cane. He felt a flash of irritation erupt in his chest.
He went on the offense. You want to know the truth. Here it is, Aurora. It only angered him more. So what the hell am I supposed to do with these feelings? Aurora chewed on her bottom lip, a habit that Joker knew meant she was thinking hard about his words. He could only wait and watch.
When she finally turned to him again, a small smile played on her lips. As if she finally came to terms with something. Shepard chuckled slightly, taking a few steps towards him. Maybe I secretly hoped for that. Maybe… maybe I love you too. If it was physically possible, Joker was sure his heart would have exploded out of his chest in that instant.
What is happening? Those people suffered at their hands and under the control of the Thorian. One of Hudson's primary goals for the single-player campaign was to improve combat, hoping to turn Mass Effect 3 into one of the best shooters on the market. Mass Effect 3 required over 40, lines of dialog.
Although Mass Effect 3 was originally planned as a project that could be finished in under two years, by March , it was clear that more development time was required, so BioWare moved the game's release date from Q4 to Q1 The overall narrative of Mass Effect 3 went through multiple redrafts before being finalized, and a number of ending sequences involving the Reapers were considered but ultimately abandoned.
These choices ended up being similar in nature to the choices offered by the Catalyst in the final game. Mass Effect 3 offers expanded content for players who are interested in having their Shepard pursue same-sex relationships with non-player characters. Kaidan Alenko, who was previously only available as a heterosexual romance option for a female Shepard, is retroactively established as a bisexual character who can, at the player's discretion, become a male Shepard's love interest.
Everman was mindful of concerns raised by players where a relationship between Shepard and a non-player character in previous games may inexplicably shift from a friendship into a romance to their surprise. The approach he took in response was to frame the majority of the relationship to be about the progression of a friendship, and that romantic feelings only surface by the end of the arc once the character's backstory is shared with Shepard in greater detail. Patrick Weekes , a team member who was responsible for Traynor, explained in a blog post that they acted on advice from friends and discarded an initial draft which would have revolved around Traynor identifying and overcoming the challenges of being gay.
Instead, her arc was rewritten as a lighthearted fish out of water story, and her characterization predominantly about a civilian technician trying to adjust to life in a military environment as opposed to her sexual orientation. Leading to its release, Mass Effect 3 was promoted with a variety of video content, beginning with a reveal trailer in and ending with a teaser trailer called Take Back Earth in In addition to the standard version of Mass Effect 3 , players could also purchase a Collector's Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition, which included in-game bonuses and unlockable items.
Mass Effect 3 was originally scheduled for release in late , but its official release date was eventually moved to March 6, A variety of downloadable content packs for Mass Effect 3 were released between March and April In Extended Cut , a scene with Admiral Hackett ordering an evacuation is added. Other major packs include From Ashes , which adds Javik as a squadmate; Leviathan , which follows the crew of the Normandy as they investigate the Reapers' origins; Omega , which involves Shepard retaking the space station Omega alongside Aria T'Loak, its former ruler, from Cerberus; and Citadel , which follows the crew of the Normandy on shore leave.
Upon release, the Xbox and PlayStation 3 versions of Mass Effect 3 received "universal acclaim" while the Microsoft Windows and Wii U versions received "generally favorable reviews" from video game publications , according to review aggregator Metacritic.
The Xbox and PlayStation 3 versions of the game finished with scores of 93 out of , making Mass Effect 3 the highest-rated game of on both systems. Critics felt that Mass Effect 3 was a satisfying conclusion to the Mass Effect trilogy. In a perfect review for Eurogamer , Dan Whitehead praised the game for providing a definitive close to the saga instead of something more ambiguous or open-ended.
Reviewers highlighted the experience of playing Mass Effect 3 with an imported saved game. In a piece for Polygon , Arthur Gies opined that, while the game would be engaging without any previous context, it would be more meaningful for players who also played through Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. Club echoed these sentiments and praised Mass Effect 3 for allotting each player a degree of flexibility over their choices and the direction of the narrative.
The combat system and multiplayer mode received praise. Discussing combat for IGN , Colin Moriarty observed that while changes from prior installments were minor, they were still evident, and anticipated that multiplayer would give the game added replay value. Other aspects of Mass Effect 3 to receive praise included its art design, music, and voice acting. GameSpot described the art design as "fantastic" and gave particular attention to its use of color and composition.
The ending of Mass Effect 3 was poorly received by players, who felt that it did not meet their expectations. Displeased fans organized an internet campaign called "Retake Mass Effect" to demand a better ending to the game, part of which included a charity drive for the organization Child's Play.
Other noteworthy controversies surrounding Mass Effect 3 included accusations of questionable business practices over the decision to release From Ashes as day one DLC; allegations of conflict of interest involving the casting of video game media personality Jessica Chobot as Diana Allers; objections from some players over the inclusion of expanded same sex romance options for Shepard; the creative decision to utilize a stock photo as the basis of Tali's face; and an online poll to determine the redesigned default appearance of a female Shepard.
EA originally shipped 3. In the years following its release, Mass Effect 3 has received retrospective attention, with much of it focusing on the ending controversy. For example, a article by James Davenport of PC Gamer opined that the game's ending received an "inordinate" amount of criticism, and while he agreed that the ending was "problematic", he also noted that fixating on the ending could distract players from other aspects of the game.
She ultimately concluded that the movement "helped lift up the velvet rope that once stood between gamer and game-maker. Despite the controversies surrounding the game, some publications have cited Mass Effect 3 as one of the greatest video games of all time and as one of the best or most important games of the s.
In November , the game was included in Time's list of the top video games of all time, and in , it was named among the greatest games of all time by Game Informer. On March 21, , a standalone sequel, entitled Mass Effect: Andromeda , was released.

Electronic Arts. Codex - Mass Relays : Once believed to be of Prothean origin, mass relays were in fact created by the Reapers using technology far beyond that of other living species. The enormous structures, scattered throughout the stars, create corridors of virtually mass-free space. This allows instantaneous transit between locations separated by years or even centuries using conventional FTL drives.
Though they have no official power over the independent governments of other species, the Council's decisions carry great weight throughout the galaxy. No single Council race is strong enough to defy the other two, and all have a vested interest in compromise and cooperation. Codex - The Reapers : Although accurate information about the Reapers remains scarce, the galaxy now knows that the Reapers are not a myth--they are a real and devastating threat.
The turians fought the krogan to a standstill, but the sheer weight of krogan numbers indicated they could not be stopped through conventional means. The turians collaborated with the salarians to engineer a genetic counter to the krogans' rapid breeding. Codex - Rannoch : Almost three hundred years ago, the quarians were driven from Rannoch by the geth, synthetic servants who gained sapience and rebelled against their creators For many quarians, reclaiming their homeworld from the geth is a matter of both cultural and physiological necessity.
